Last updated 27 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information SMS Extinguishers collects through this website, why we collect it, who it is shared with and the choices you have. SMS Extinguishers is a fire extinguisher servicing and supply business based in Midsomer Norton, Somerset. We are responsible for the personal information described here.

If you have any questions about this policy or about your information, email us at smsextinguishers@yahoo.com or call 07775 332409.

What we collect

When you send us an enquiry

The contact form on our Contact & Booking page asks for your name, your email address and a message. When you send it, we also record the date and time, the page you sent it from, your IP address and the type of browser you used. We keep these technical details to deal with spam and misuse of the form.

When you call or email us

If you phone or email us, we receive your phone number or email address and whatever you choose to tell us.

When you browse the website

If you allow analytics cookies, Google Analytics records how you use the site: the pages you visit, how long you stay, the type of device and browser you use, your approximate location (town or region) and how you reached the site. If you do not allow analytics cookies, none of this is collected. Our web host also keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, to keep the site secure and working.

We do not ask for, and do not want to receive, sensitive information such as health details through the website.

How we use your information

  • To reply to your enquiry and give you the information, quote or booking you asked for.
  • To carry out work you have asked us to do, and to keep the records that go with it.
  • To understand how the website is used so we can improve it, but only if you allow analytics cookies.
  • To keep the website secure and stop spam.

We do not sell your information, and we do not add you to any mailing list.

Our legal reasons for using it

  • Enquiries, quotes and bookings: we need the information to take steps you have asked for before entering into a contract, and to carry out that contract.
  • Records of the work we do: to meet our legal obligations and in our legitimate interest in running the business.
  • Analytics cookies: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • Security and spam prevention: our legitimate interest in keeping the website and our inbox safe.

Who we share it with

We only share your information with the companies that help us run the website and our email:

  • CreateTheWeb, our web design and hosting agency, which hosts and looks after the website and sends form enquiries to our inbox. The website is hosted on servers in the UK.
  • Yahoo, which provides our email inbox. Messages you send us, and the enquiries from the website, are stored there. Yahoo may process information outside the UK under its own safeguards.
  • Google, which provides Google Analytics, only if you allow analytics cookies. Google may process information outside the UK, including in the United States, under its own safeguards.

We may also share information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiries for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and any work that follows, and records of work for as long as the law and our insurance require. Analytics data is kept by Google for the period set in our Google Analytics account. Your cookie choice is kept in your browser for six months.

Cookies

The website uses a small number of cookies. Optional cookies are only set if you allow them. You can read which cookies we use, and why, in our Cookie Policy, and change your choice at any time using the Cookie Settings link at the bottom of every page.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your information;
  • ask us to limit how we use your information, or object to us using it;
  • ask us to pass your information to another organisation;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent.

To use any of these rights, email smsextinguishers@yahoo.com. We will reply within one month. There is normally no charge.

Keeping your information safe

The website uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and access to enquiries in the website’s admin area is limited to the people who need it.

Children

The website is for businesses and adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
